General

What is Scrittore?
Scrittore is a full-featured web application built specifically for novelists and fiction writers. It gives you everything in one place — a distraction-free writing editor, character and world-building tools, an outline builder, a timeline, a glossary, writing stats, AI assistance, and export to professional formats like EPUB, DOCX, and PDF.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Scrittore runs entirely in your browser. No downloads, no plugins, no desktop app required. It works on any modern browser on desktop, tablet, or mobile.
Is Scrittore right for me if I've never written a novel before?
Absolutely. Scrittore is designed to meet you where you are. You can start with a blank document and write scene by scene, or use the outline builder to plan your story before writing a single word. The Help Guide (available after signing in) walks you through every feature step by step.
What's the difference between a Novel and a Series?
A Novel is a single standalone book project. A Series is a collection of novels that share characters, world-building, and lore. If you're writing a trilogy or a saga, a Series lets you manage shared elements — characters, locations, notes — across all the books in one place.
Can I use Scrittore on my phone?
Yes. The interface is responsive and works on mobile, though the writing editor is most comfortable on a larger screen. We recommend a tablet or laptop for extended writing sessions.

Writing

How is writing organized in Scrittore?
Your novel is divided into Chapters, and each chapter contains one or more Scenes. This mirrors how most novels are actually written — you work scene by scene rather than in one giant document. Scenes can be reordered by dragging, and word counts are tracked automatically.
What does the writing editor support?
The editor is a rich-text writer built on Quill. It supports bold, italic, underline, blockquotes, headings, and lists. It's intentionally minimal — the focus is on your words, not formatting.
Can I reorder chapters and scenes?
Yes. Chapters and scenes can be reordered using drag-and-drop. Scrittore remembers your ordering and uses it when you export or compile your manuscript.
What is the Compile view?
The Compile view shows your entire manuscript in reading order — all chapters and scenes stitched together. You can review the full text before exporting.
Does Scrittore track my word count?
Yes. Word counts are tracked per scene, per chapter, and for the whole novel. The Stats dashboard shows your daily writing progress over time, so you can see your writing streaks and productivity trends.
What are Notes for?
Notes are a freeform knowledge base for your project — research snippets, inspiration, plot ideas, character details you haven't written yet, or anything else you want to keep nearby. Notes have categories (idea, research, character, plot, world, other) and are searchable.
What is the Glossary for?
The Glossary lets you define terms specific to your story — invented words, places, magic systems, organizations. It's a quick reference so you stay consistent, and it's especially useful for fantasy and sci-fi writers with complex world-building.

AI Assistant

What can the AI assistant do?
The AI assistant is context-aware — it knows which scene, character, or world element you're working on and uses that information to give relevant suggestions. It can continue scenes, rephrase or tighten prose, expand descriptions, suggest character backstories and arcs, develop outline beats, brainstorm world-building, answer questions about your project, and much more.
How do AI tokens work?
Every AI request uses a certain number of tokens (think of them as units of text processed). Free and Hobbyist plans include a monthly token budget (50K and 150K respectively) that resets on the 1st of each month. Pro and Power subscribers can connect their own OpenRouter API key to use any AI model — GPT-4o, Gemini, Llama, and more — with usage billed directly by OpenRouter, not counted against any Scrittore budget.
What happens when I run out of tokens?
The AI assistant will be unavailable until your budget resets on the 1st of the month. You can upgrade your plan at any time to get a larger budget — or, on Pro and Power plans, connect your own OpenRouter key to bypass the budget entirely.
When does my token budget reset?
Token budgets reset on the 1st of every month. Your subscription page shows how many tokens you've used, your limit, and the next reset date. Pro and Power users on OpenRouter BYOK have no monthly cap.
What AI model powers the assistant?
Scrittore uses Claude (by Anthropic) and DeepSeek by default. Pro and Power subscribers can also connect an OpenRouter API key to use any model available on OpenRouter — including GPT-4o, Gemini, Llama, Mistral, and more.
Does the AI read my entire novel?
The AI is given context relevant to what you're working on — the current scene text, character profile, or world element — rather than your entire manuscript at once. This keeps responses fast and focused.

Subscription & Billing

What features are free?
The free plan gives you unlimited novels and writing, access to characters, world-building, notes, outline, glossary, and 50,000 AI tokens per month. Premium features — Timeline, Story Arcs, Character Relationship Graph, Export (EPUB/DOCX/PDF), Backup & Restore, Grammar Check, and Series — require a paid plan.
What are the paid plans?
Hobbyist ($X/month), Pro ($X/month), and Power ($X/month). Each tier unlocks all premium features and increases your monthly AI token budget. Visit the Subscription page for current pricing.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time from the Subscription page. You keep access to paid features until the end of your current billing period.
How do I upgrade or downgrade?
Go to your Subscription page and choose a new plan. Changes take effect immediately for upgrades; downgrades apply at the next billing cycle.
Do you offer refunds?
Please contact us via the support form if you have a billing concern. We handle refund requests on a case-by-case basis.
Do you have promotional codes?
Yes. You can enter a promo code on the Subscription page or at checkout when choosing a plan.

Data & Privacy

Is my writing private?
Yes. Your novels, characters, notes, and all other content are private to your account. We do not share, sell, or use your creative writing for any purpose other than providing the service to you.
Is my data safe?
Your data is stored on secure servers and transmitted over HTTPS. We follow industry-standard security practices to protect your account and content.
Can I back up my work?
Yes. Paid plans include a Backup feature that lets you download your entire novel (or series) as a JSON file. You can restore from this backup at any time.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
Deleting your account permanently removes all your novels, characters, notes, and personal data from our servers. This action cannot be undone.
Do you use my writing to train AI models?
No. Your writing is not used to train any AI models.

Export

What formats can I export to?
Scrittore can export your manuscript to EPUB (e-book), DOCX (Microsoft Word), PDF, and plain TXT. All formats include your chapter structure and scene ordering.
Does the export include my cover image?
Yes. EPUB exports include your cover image if you've uploaded one.
Can I export a partial manuscript?
Currently, export includes all chapters and scenes in your novel. Partial exports are on our roadmap.
Is Export a premium feature?
Yes. Export (EPUB, DOCX, PDF) is available on paid plans. TXT export may be available across plans — check the Export page inside your project for current options.
